Every year, the District hosts a variety of events, bringing the community and members together, to celebrate the arts and culture while building a deeper connection within the community.
The Folk/Acoustic Open Mic night at TCAN has been a tradition since its inception in 1997. This program provides an intimate and supportive atmosphere for acoustic performers of all abilities to showcase their talents and partake in the area’s most vibrant folk/acoustic music community around. All musicians and spoken word performers are invited to participate.
To the TCAN Open Mic Community —
Our last TCAN open mic was more than three years ago — In the before-times of early March 2020. I hope everyone has managed to stay safe and well, and found ways to keep productive and creative during this strange and challenging time.
I am very pleased to announce that the TCAN open mic is scheduled to resume on Tuesday evening, May 9. This will be a “soft launch” as we get re-acclimated. We will start by having our first few open mics on a monthly basis without a featured performer, with an eye toward moving to twice a month with featured performers assuming there’s sufficient interest.
Some aspects of the open mic will be different — For one thing we’re planning to hold it upstairs in the TCAN Cinema Room, an intimate 120-seat space with excellent acoustics. But one thing I’m sure will not change is the wonderful spirit of our open mic community. I hope you’re looking forward to getting reacquainted, and to sharing some new music with us as much as I’m looking forward to hearing it.
