SUMMARY:Carols by Candlelight with Diane Taraz
DESCRIPTION:Join the Bacon Free Library and the Natick Historical Society to hear Diane Taraz perform traditional Victorian Christmas carols this holiday season. \nMany of our holiday traditions and Christmas music were revived or created during the Victorian era in the mid-1800s. Diane will present these beloved carols and fascinating stories about their origins as she performs in a hand-sewn 1850s dress and accompanies herself on guitar and dulcimer. \nDiane Taraz has been writing her songs for years and breathing new life into traditional ones. She explains the intricacies of her music with a dry wit and a light touch. \nThis event is free\, but please register HERE in advance. \n  \nThis event will take place at the Natick History Museum (downstairs from the Bacon Free Library).

SUMMARY:Art Reception – Quilts by Frances Caruso Daneault
DESCRIPTION:The Bacon Free Library is thrilled to welcome back former Assistant Director and Children’s Librarian extraordinaire Fran Daneault to exhibit her spectacular collection of quilts. Along with raising her two sons in Natick and working at the Bacon\, Fran has also spent years perfecting her crafting skills. She applies the same energy\, creativity\, joy\, and humor to her artistic works that she brought in working with children and families at the BFL\, where she frequently wore and gifted some of her handmade creations. \nA longtime resident of Natick\, Fran and her husband recently relocated to New Hampshire\, where Fran can be found walking on the beach\, volunteering in her local library\, and quilting up a storm. \nFran’s quilts will be on display at the BFL from September 19th – October 30th.  Join us at this reception to view the quilts and visit with Fran. \n  \nFrom Fran: \n \nI am a scrappy\, wonky\, modern\, art quilter who sometimes makes traditional quilts. \nI like learning in classes and workshops but have trouble sticking to a pattern. \nFor fabric\, I collect randomly spaced dots\, paisleys\, loudly busy prints and happy colors. I think\, perhaps wrongly\, that they all go together. \nI own way too much fabric but still feel the need to give orphaned fabrics a home. \nI hope you enjoy this collection of quilts.

SUMMARY:Great Blue Herons: A Study of Patience and Grace
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Bacon Free Library from May 21st to June 3rd to enjoy Babsje’s stunning photography collection\, Great Blue Herons: A Study of Patience and Grace. \nBabsje was a local photographer who focused her lens on the Great Blue Herons in and around Lake Cochituate and on the Charles\, including at the dam in South Natick. SUMMARY:Of Thee I Sing! Songs of Love and Justice
DESCRIPTION:Karen Slack performs at Babson College \nOf Thee I Sing! Songs of Love and Justice is a critically acclaimed recital created by Slack in late summer 2020 during the height of the pandemic and just after the murder of George Floyd. The center of this moving program is the raw and powerful yet hopeful Langston Hughes poem\, “Kids Who Die” (1938)\, and a commissioned setting of that riveting text by American composer Scott Gendel. Gendel’s stirring tour de force is presented alongside vocal masterworks by distinguished American composers from H.T. Burleigh to Clayton White\, Undine Smith Moore\, H. Leslie Adams\, Ricky Ian Gordon\, Adolphus Hailstork\, and Jake Heggie. Curated by Slack with intention and care\, this impactful program features songs exploring the themes of love and justice. Through these soaring melodies and beautiful texts\, Slack offers a musical journey rooted in a shared understanding that without love there can never be liberty or justice for all. The performance is free and open to the public\, walk-ins welcome\, but registration encouraged.

SUMMARY:Art Opening Reception: Carol Keefe and Bobby Reeve
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an art opening reception for artists Carol Keefe and Bobby Reeve\, whose art will be featured at the Bacon Free Library from February 8 – March 27.  Meet the artists and enjoy their art. \nCarol Keefe’s Artist Statement \nI am inspired by the ever changing light and color at the horizon. My medium of choice is oil on board or canvas. My paintings are often large\, horizontal pieces emphasizing the meeting of sky and sea on Nantucket Island. My goal is to capture the feelings of summer on our coast. \nwww.carolkeefe.com \nBobby Reeve’s Artist Statement \nI always wanted to fly\, and I don’t mean a plane! Somehow this explains my love of birds\, their flight\, colors\, shapes\, songs\, and behaviors. I love the idea of a ‘bird’s eye view’ and carving and sculpting almost get me there. The gallery on my webpage is filled with examples of my work. \nwww.robertreeve.com
