DESCRIPTION:Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto\, the powerhouse bass and drums of the group King Crimson for a few decades\, bring that tradition to all their playing. Levin plays the Chapman Stick\, from which the band takes its name. Having bass and guitar strings\, the Chapman Stick functions at times like two instruments. Markus Reuter plays his self-designed touch style guitar – again covering much more ground than a guitar or a bass. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial\, Mallory Mortillaro presents Paintings of the American Revolution. \nWe all know the story of the Revolutionary War\, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was understood\, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware\, John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence\, and Asher Durand’s The Capture of Major André. \nMallory Mortillaro is an art historian and educator. She has ten years of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. DESCRIPTION:With two of the most prolific rock guitarists in the world: GE Smith (Hall & Oats /Bob Dylan & SNL band)\, Jim Weider (The Band & Levon Helm Band)\, this is sure to be a historic night of Blues & Roots Rock & Roll. Playing tunes from Roy Buchanan\, Little Richard\, Neil Young\, Jimmy Reed\, Steve Winwood\, Sam Cooke and more! \nJim Weider\, a master of classic telecaster guitar\, is renowned for his rock and blues-based signature sound. He is among a select group of musicians with an endorsement from Fender and\, for the past three decades\, he’s earned enormous respect from fellow musicians and music fans throughout the world. \nBorn and raised in the famed arts colony of Woodstock\, NY\, Jim received great acclaim during his long tenure (1985-2000) as lead guitarist (replacing Robbie Robertson) for Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductees\, The Band. During 15 years of international touring with original members Levon Helm\, Garth Hudson and Rick Danko\, Jim was featured on numerous albums\, films\, videos and television appearances. Highlights included a 1990 performance with The Band and Ronnie Hawkins at The Berlin Wall concert produced by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd; several cable TV specials (notably “The Bob Dylan Tribute” at Madison Square Garden; “The Road\,” and “This Country’s Rocking”); a performance and recording at the “Unofficial Blue Jean Bash” for President Clinton’s 1993 Inaugural Ball\, with special guests Bob Dylan\, Steven Stills and Dr. John; a 1994 pay-per-view concert telecast from the Woodstock ’94 Festival; and a 1995 appearance on the A&E Biography documentary “The Authorized Video Biography The Band” for cable TV and video\, released by ABC Video. Jim furthered his reputation as a versatile and talented guitarist in performances and recordings with Scotty Moore\, Keith Richards\, Los Lobos\, Graham Parker\, Taj Mahal\, Mavis Staples\, Hot Tuna\, Bob Weir/Rat Dog\, Johnny Paycheck\, James Talley\, Kim Wilson\, Paul Butterfield\, Robbie Dupree\, among many others. \nGE SMITH was the music Director and led the Saturday Night Live (SNL) band for 10 years. During this time he also toured with Bob Dylan for four years. He also helped Mike Myers write a song for Aerosmith for when they performed on SNL. DESCRIPTION:Amalia Kussner was one of the preferred artists of Gilded Age New York\, especially in the 1890s when she painted miniature portraits of the elites. Fans of the critically acclaimed HBO series\, The Gilded Age\, will appreciate Kussner’s portraits of several key characters\, including Mrs. Astor\, the reigning matriarch of the social scene and her two daughters; famed actress Lillian Russell; English soprano Marie Tempest; and wealthy socialite Consuelo Vanderbilt.  Kussner even met Ward McAllister\, the arbiter of Gilded Age society. He advised her not to pursue her career as an artist and\, thankfully\, she ignored him. \nIn this program\, author and historical researcher Kathleen Langone will reveal how Kussner’s portraits and interactions with these famous people can provide more insights into their extravagant lives. \nKathleen Langone is the host of the podcast People Hidden In History and the author of the book Miniature Painter Revealed: Amalia Kussner’s Gilded Age Pursuit of Fame and Fortune. \nThis program is held in collaboration with the Bacon Free Library and the Tewksbury Public Library. \n  \nPlease register to receive the Zoom link. \n  \nRECORDING NOTE: This program will be recorded. Though it’s only a flesh wound\, Charlie Brock’s self-inflicted injury sets off a series of events causing four couples to experience a severe attack of farce. \nAs their tenth wedding anniversary party commences\, Charlie lies bleeding in another room\, and his wife Myra is nowhere in sight. The first guests\, lawyer Ken Gorman and his wife Chris\, scramble to get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. DESCRIPTION:The world is fascinated by the recent jewel robbery at the Louvre\, and so are the Curators of Crime\, mystery authors Connie Berry\, Lane Stone\, Nina Wachsman\, and M.A. Monnin. In this program\, the Curators of Crime will examine the public’s fascination with the recent burglary of Napoleonic jewels at the Louvre and discuss how\, as authors\, they have used the same elements in their books.
