Nonfiction Book Club

September 23, 2023@10:00 am - 11:00 am

This month, the Bacon Free Library’s nonfiction book club will discuss Shakespeare Saved My Life: Ten Years in Solitary with the Bard by Laura Bates.

Author Laura Bates has spent many years working as a volunteer and as an instructor in prisons in Chicago and Indiana.  In this book, she chronicles her experience teaching Shakespeare to inmates in the solitary confinement unit. Starting out, she hoped to interest at least one inmate; eventually, she would have as many as fifty prisoners on her waiting list.

Copies of this book are available at the Bacon Free Library or you can request a copy here.

Our discussion will be held in a hybrid format.  The host will be in person at the BFL, while some members will join over zoom.  You are welcome to join either way.  For zoom, please register on the BFL website to receive the meeting details.
